I am thrilled to announce that I have been awarded a fellowship by the Jentel Artist Residency Program. Jentel is located in a rural setting on a working cattle ranch in the Lower Piney Creek Valley approximately 20 miles southeast of Sheridan, Wyoming. A rotating panel of arts and literary professionals evaluate samples of visual art work and manuscripts before making final recommendations for residency awards. The panel selects only four visual artist and two writers for each one month stipend session. I am honored to receive this extremely competitive award. An Autumn 2013 residency in this remarkable environment with spectacular views over scoria topped hills to the majestic Big Horn Mountains will allow me to create a new body of abstract landscapes paintings. My painting studio is equipped with a Takach Garfield litho press which I will use for designing abstract landscape monotypes. I will also work on a new series of abstract landscape paintings. For any artist in whatever media, protected time from the day-to-day necessities of living to examine and reflect upon work and the creative process is essential as a catalyst for artistic development.
